Printing Services

We produce traditional Black and White prints on real silver gelatine based black and white papers up to 20 "x16" from 35mm and 120 (up to 6cm x 6cm) Black and White negatives in a traditional darkroom using an optical enlarger. All negatives are individually assessed and appropriate dodging or burning in applied. We do follow any instructions re contrast, cropping, boarders etc. Please telephone with any specific instructions which are not easily explained in writing. Printing traditional darkroom prints via a digital negative.

We can now produce real black and white prints on silver gelatine based paper from any negative, or transparency, either black and white or colour, 35mm and 120 (up to 6cm x 9cm), and any digital file of appropriate size. We can print these images to either 7"x 5", 10"x 8", or 12"x10" in either gloss or pearl finish. This method combines the best of the traditional darkroom with modern digital techniques. Excellent prints can be made from old or damaged negatives as digital restoration techniques can be applied before traditional wet darkroom printing. Dodging and burning in can be applied more precisely to a digital file made from a negative. The file can then be printed in the darkroom in the traditional way. The end result being a traditional black and white darkroom print of superior quality to one which could be produced using normal darkroom techniques. This method is perfect for producing prints that need lots of dodging and burning in such as steam locomotive pictures.

We also digital print from 35mm and medium format (up to 6cm x 9cm) colour or Black and White negatives and slides, and digital image files, and can produce prints in colour or monochrome. All files are individually assessed in Photoshop prior to printing.

Please add £3.00 per print to above prices if prints are to be made via a Digital Negative.

Please note that if more than one copy of a print is required from a digital negative we only charge the £3.00 Digital negative fee once for each print size, as once we have the produced the negative we can make any number of prints from it.

Prints via digital negative only available in 7"x 5" and 10" x 8" at present.

Please note sizes quoted are paper sizes. Some prints will have a larger border on longest side (35mm), or shorter sides (6x6), unless a crop of negative is specified when ordering, to allow printing of whole negative area.
